JENNY'S STORY

Hi there, I’m Jenny Evans. An artist, designer and self-confessed magpie who loves nothing more than sitting in my garden on a sunny day, sketchbook on my lap, drawing insects, birds and other flora and fauna.

Nature has always been central to my life and it inspires everything I do.

Born in Devon, I’ve returned to my roots after living in Wales for several years and studying textiles at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

I’ve also travelled widely, gathering inspiration for my work from adventures in Australia, India and Oman.

My love of the ocean and its wildlife brought me back to my hometown of Plymouth where I celebrate nature through textile work and sketching. My mum has always said that I was born with a pencil in my hand - as a child, when I wasn’t trying to catch frogs outside, I could usually be found sitting at the kitchen table drawing and painting. It’s fair to say that I have always loved art - I sold my first set of cards in a shop when I was eleven, which definitely inspired my creative journey!

It wasn’t until I enrolled on my degree course that I learned to sew. In a moment of panic after realising that I didn’t actually know how to use a sewing machine, I practised by creating my first textile artwork as a gift for my mum's birthday. After seeing it, my local framer asked me to produce more work for him to sell in his gallery. I enjoy using my art to educate about wildlife conservation and have worked in collaboration with the WWT London Wetlands Centre, the British Dragonfly Society and the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. I have also had work displayed in several National Trust properties and while I was studying for my degree, I was awarded the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Award in recognition of my creativity and innovative spirit.

Always wanting to try my hand at new techniques, I’ve recently begun printmaking and learned how to create linocuts, and mixed media artworks, etched prints and collagraphy. I offer prints as well as original pieces, as I want to make my art accessible for all, and all of my work can be customised, so please get in touch with your ideas - I want each artwork to feel completely different for every home.

Enjoy browsing my collection and I hope you love what you find!
